Beyond the Body 形骸之外 (2026)

Beyond the Body is a porous stoneware vessel whose fractured surface is animated by a slowly breathing internal light. Cracked, perforated, and no longer able to function as a conventional container, the vessel appears physically compromised. Yet when illuminated, its wounds become openings through which light escapes, casting enlarged and shifting shadows across the surrounding walls.

The work considers how vulnerability and vitality can coexist within the same body. As light passes through the cracks, attention shifts away from the vessel’s damaged surface toward the expansive shadows it produces, allowing its presence to extend beyond its physical boundaries.

Drawing from the artist’s own experience of bodily injury, Beyond the Body reflects on moments when the limits of the wounded body seem to recede, and resilience, vitality, and presence are felt as forces that extend beyond the physical body.
