Liu Jiayi is a Chinese-Australian interdisciplinary artist living and working on the unceded lands of the Kulin Nation in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. Working across living fungi, digital fabrication, sculpture and installation, her practice explores how bodies, identities and modes of living are co-formed through relations with organisms, materials, technologies and environments.

Drawing on experiences of bodily transformation, cultural inheritance and displacement, and evolving relationships with digital technologies, Liu approaches embodiment as porous and relational, shaped through ongoing encounters with biological, technological, cultural and environmental forces. Her current practice brings fungi into dialogue with digitally fabricated structures, using cultivation, 3D scanning and printing, and iterative experimentation to investigate processes of mutual transformation between living and technological systems, and how forms persist, shift and carry traces across processes of change. Her work considers tensions between care and control, intervention and autonomy, continuity and change, and the unstable boundaries between human and nonhuman, living and artificial.

Liu is currently completing a Master of Fine Art at RMIT University and holds a Bachelor of Science from University of Melbourne. In 2026, she was selected for Tropical Lab 20 residency at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore.
