Living With explores how everyday objects can become sites of co-formation between human, technological and biological systems. Familiar furniture forms are altered by digitally fabricated structures while also physically supporting them. These structures contain colonised substrate, allowing mushrooms to emerge through designed openings and gradually transform the objects’ surfaces and silhouettes.

By bringing living growth into contact with objects associated with support, domesticity and routine, the work considers how bodies and modes of living are shaped through relationships with materials, technologies and environments. The cultivation process also introduces uncertainty: while conditions can be designed, maintained and cared for, fungal growth cannot be fully controlled. Living With therefore reflects on the tensions between care and control, intervention and autonomy, and the shifting boundaries between living and artificial systems.
