Supporting proposal images and Installation plan

Starting Forms

Anastomosis begins with three Chinese auspicious forms: a long-life lock (长命锁), ruyi sceptre (如意) and hulu gourd (葫芦). These objects traditionally carry associations with protection, wellbeing and longevity.

The images below are visual references for the initial forms. Each form will be translated into a translucent, hollow 3D-printed structure designed to contain colonised fungal substrate and allow fungal growth to emerge through selected openings.

Generational Development

Each sculptural sequence develops through repeated cycles of fungal cultivation, 3D scanning and reprinting. The sketch shows one possible five-generation progression.

Current Practice References

The following works show the existing material and visual language informing Anastomosis, including fungal cultivation, translucent 3D-printed structures, biological growth altering fabricated forms, and second-generation forms produced through 3D scanning and reprinting.

Proposed Installation Layout

The floor plan below shows a possible arrangement of the works in Gallery 1, including the placement of the three sculptural sequences and the moving-image work. It is intended as a visual guide, not a fixed installation plan.
